EATI aims at enabling theatre practitioners in the region to cooperate around common areas of interest such as skills development, community theatre and outreach theatre, co-production and information sharing. The goal of EATI is to promote theatre, artists and deliberately seeks to answer developmental needs of the Eastern Africa societies by employing theatre to bring about new thinking, dialogue and debate. Theatre for development has opened traditions considered taboo, disclose traditions that have contributed to poverty and spread of HIV/AIDS as well as illustrating how detrimental to development these traditions have been.
The business of EATI therefore include engaging into social development, addressing issues such as poverty reduction, environment degradation, gender issues, education and HIV/AIDS through a theatrical dialogue which is proving to be effective.
We sincerely thanks Sida (Sweden) and Government of Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda for their moral and financial support.
